This print was created by Tsuchiya Koitsu (1870-1949)
Here is “Maruyama Park in the snow”, one of great prints published and printed by Doi Teiichi in 1936, probably the most famous print of Koitsu published by Doi. Signed Koitsu and has artists seal Shin (true). Inscribed in Japanese on the right margin. Has publisher seal Doi Hangaten and carver/printer Harada/Ito seals, indicate it’s early prewar edition. It’s one of the best designs of the artists. Oban size 16" by 11". Good impression, excellent color , bleedthrough and registration, just has slight discoloration near top left corner almost invisible. |

Koitsu-Maruyama Park in the Snow- Hangaten offset2.jpg is:
Up for auction is this Watanabe Koitsu "Maruyama Park in the Snow Print", by Tsuchiya Koitsu, 1936. This 17" x 11 3/8" print is absolutely beautiful in Great rich color and Great ink saturation to the back. This print was published by Doi Teiichi which contains a water mark in the upper left hand corner and a carver printer seal on the lower left hand side margin. Tsuchiya Koitsu’s signature and seal are also n the lower left hand side of the print. The print is in relatively good condition with no rips are tears, it also has a nice impressed texture to the paper from the block impressing. Although it is a wonderful print with brilliant color and comes with a low NO RESERVE starting price is does have some minimal damages. Mostly is in the lower right hand corner where there is a bend in the print… that is about 3.5" in length diagonally across the bottom along with another bend in the same corner closer to the outer edge of about 1" in length. Across the top in the margin there appears like a few crease like marks, perhaps where it was once rolled. Otherwise, it is a great print with bright vivid color and once framed would look fantastic.

Japanese woodblock print by Koitsu Tsuchiya (1870-1949) entitled “Spring Snow at Maruyama Park, Kyoto.” Originally published in 1936; margin is dated “Showa 11.” Later Hama impression posthumously printed from Koitsu’s original blocks. These later editions are identical to the earlier editions except for the publisher’s seal. With their intense realism, Koitsu’s woodblock prints have immortalized his country’s scenic beauty. Subtle effects of light and shadow endow his scenic renderings with an aura of captivating beauty, making his prints highly prized among collectors. The workmanship in both carving and printing is very good. Skillfully executed changes of color shading ("bokashi") are seen throughout the print. Pristine condition, with excellent color and registration, and strong ink bleed through. Oban size image measures 15 3/8” x 10 1/8”, plus full margins.
