The Stokes Collection
Fresh to auction is a wonderful Japanese woodblock print. This 20th century piece is signed ( see photos ) matted and framed. It has been laid down for framing. Condition is good to very good without visual damage, frame has normal nicks still highly presentable. Woodblock itself measures 15.75" X 10.60" with borders and 19.25" X 14" framed

Beautiful woodblock print by shin hanga master Tsuiycha Koitsu. I believe this print was done in the 50's or 60's. There is no publishers seal, not uncommon for prints of this era.

The Coast of Shinagawa

This print- Beautiful night scene off the coast of Shinagawa showing two sailboats under the full moon. A small fire on each boat is used to attract fish for night fishing. Great image and beautiful scene of early 20th century life in Japan.

From the collection of a Doi printer- We recently bought eight prints that came from the estate of a man who work as a woodblock printer for the Doi publishing company in the 1970’s. Some of the 20th century printers were known to have collected some of the woodblock prints that they were printing for their employer, in this case Doi Hanga. These eight prints were purchased from the estate of the printer by a prominent Japanese print dealer. We bought the group from that dealer and are offering all eight on Ebay tonight. The prints are very finely printed and in excellent condition. They are a nice chance to collect a more historic example of these subjects.

Signed- Koitsu with red artist’s seal
Publisher- Doi
Image size- 9 1/2” x 14 1/4” (oban)
Condition- In perfect condition with no issues to report. Nice color, excellent detail, not backed, not toned, no tears.

Beautiful wooodblock print by Tsuiycha Koitsu, "Boats at Shinigawa" Originally published in 1935, this example does not bear any publishers marks as was the case for many prints. This is a very finely executed print in excellent condition. Woodblock authorities I have spoken with say it could have been printed anytime between 1935 and the late sixties.

Here we have a previously framed Japanese Woodblock Print which is signed by what appears to be "Koitsu Ishiwata"? And is being sold with NO RESERVE. The Print measures approx. 10 7/8" X 15 7/8" and is in very nice condition. The only problem that I have noticed is that the print has scotch tape around the margin. (see photo).
