It would appear only a small edition was made by the publisher, Kawaguchi, who - together with Sakai in the 1920s - had published works by Hasui and Kotondo, a.o. - Around 1930 their cooperation had ended, and Kawaguchi continued to publish woodblock prints on his own. Kawaguchi, as well, had closed his business in the early 1930s.

This is an original oban size(15 x 10 inches) Japanese woodblock print by Tsuchiya Koitsu(1870-1949), published by Kawaguchi & Sakai, of unknown date. Kawaguchi and Sakai published very few of Koitsu's work. The work has decently full margins and carries the third seal for Kawaguchi and Sakai, both on the left in long form, and on the lower right, in shorter form. The name of the print is above the short form on the right. Koitsu, in red seal, is in the lower right body of the print. Koitsu was the long term pupil of Kiyochika, and lived with the latter for almost 20 years. There is mild fading of the print, I think, or it just may be that this is a night time scene. Someone, probably when it was framed, mistakenly ascribed this print to Hasui, whose name is written in pencil at the bottom lower right. "Original woodblock Print" is written at the bottom lower left and "Misty Morning" bottom middle. This is a fine and clean print by an excellent and well-regarded artist.
This auction is for an original Japanese woodblock print by the artist Tsuchiya Koitsu. It is called Moriasaki Night Fishing. Published by Kawaguchi. This is a very rare print. Apparently very few were made.
Paper size 16 3/4" x 11 3/8". Image size 15 x 10 1/4".
