GREAT 1941 KOITSU JAPANESE WOODCUT/EX. NR!

This auction features an original signed authentic 1941 Japanese woodcut print by Ishiwata Koitsu (b. 1897) in Excellent Condition. The print is signed in as many ways a print can be. It has the Artist's seal, the signature in pencil and all of the publisher's marks on the sides and is titled in English on the bottom. The print is titled

"The Pond of Sarusawa, Nara on a Rainy Evening" and is signed "Koitsu 1941."

The print is in excellent condition with great colors and no foxing or discoloration. The print has been matted and framed but it has not been glued to the matte. The frame is a nondescript black plastic frame. This was purchased as part of a fine New York City estate. There are 2 other similar woodcuts up for sale now on ebay from the same estate.

The print is 10.5" x 16" and the image area is 9.25" x 14".

This print has excellent color and bleedthrough and is a great addition to a collection.

GUARANTEED VINTAGE WOODBLOCK PRINT
SARUSAWA POND ON A RAINY EVENING
BY TSUCHIYA KOITSU (1870-1949)
1941This comes from a great Mid-Century estate that had other period woodblocks and decorative art. Hopefully the photos show the color gradations and the subtle reflections in the pond as well as the distant outline of a temple. The title is self-explanatory: "The Pond of Sarusawa, Mara on a Rainy Evening" (written in cursive at the bottom of the print along with "Koitsu 1941"), It is printed in Oban size (10 1/2" by 16") with full margins and I have pictured the various seals and inscripitions which indicate publisher, printer, date, title and artist. My reference materials do not include translations of all these, so I will leave that to you. If you would like close ups of anything, please email me.

Condition is excellent--no creases, folds, tears, etc. However, this was framed so there is some overall yellowing and there is tape residue at the corners on the back.

Approx. 16" x 10 5/8". No rips or holes.
