Notes: Deep blue evening scene of fishing boats at harbor in the Misaki Inlet. A man in the foreground rows himself to shore in a small boat. The overall atmosphere created by the deep blue palette is very effective, especially in the colors of the sky. Misaki Port is known today for its fleet of tuna fishing boats. This work comes from a collection that was purchased in Japan by an American who was working there during the postwar US occupation in the late 1940s. Very scarce design. Another design from this series is in the Robert O Muller collection, and shown in “The new wave.”
