Description
From the series, "Shiki no Nagame" (The View of the Four Seasons), "Yuki no Watashi" (Snow at Ferry Landing). A lady is listening to some words from a parrot. Her daughter is reading a book nearby.
Shoun was one of the last traditional ukiyo-e artists but his style was changed from the stereo-typical ukiyo-e beauties to more soft and natural looking beauties in this series.

Dated: 1906 December.

Publisher: Matsuki Heikichi (Daikokuya).

Technique: Woodblock print

Width Item: 14.4 inches = 36.5 cm

Height Item: 9.6 inches = 24.5 cm

Impression: Excellent … Fine blind printings on the head scarf and the white shawl.

Colors: Excellent - very good … "Gofun" for the snow effect.

Quality: Very good … Slight soils and slight creases on the margins. Mounting paper residues on verso.

Artist Bio: 
Used the psudonym Shokoku (松谷) in his early career.
明治3年(1870年)高知県に生まれる。絵を山内家のお抱え絵師で狩野洞白の門人柳本圭吾に学び、更に狩野永岳の門人河田小龍に師事し、上京後、図案、染物の原図などを手がけ絵師として立った。明治27年東洋堂より刊行された「風俗画報」の挿絵を担当したのを皮切りに「新撰東京名所図會」と言うシリーズ312図を発表し、こうした雑誌挿絵を主要な活躍舞台としたのであった。 昇雲は維新以降の目まぐるしく変化する文化風俗に着手し、風俗記録画ともいうべき新しいジャンルを確立した。  昭和40年(1965)没
