Artist: Kawase Hasui Title: Dawn at the Nihon Bridge Medium: Original Japanese Woodblock Print Series Title: Selection of Views of the Tokaido
Date: 1940 Publisher: S. Watanabe Reference No: Hotei #234 Size: 15 -1/4 x 10 -1/4 "
Notes: 'This work illustrates the Nihon bridge enveloped in a light morning mist. A good composition, a fine work with well-harmonized color scheme', notes Narazaki. The Nihonbashi was the starting point of the Tokaido; the bustling commercial area surrounding the bridge was likewise referred to as Nihonbashi. The early Nihon bridge would have looked very different from the western-style bridge of Hasui's day. - Hotei Vol.1
