The Peony Series from the Imperial Exhibition - In 1917, one of Japan's famous naturalist artists, Tanigami Konan, was chosen to produce a series of beautiful peony prints for the Teiten (Imperial Academy Art Exhibition). Because of the importance of this auspicious occasion, all of the traditional Japanese works of art selected for display represented the highest standards. Konan designed a lovely woodblock print set of 24 peonies, which was published by Unsodo. These wonderful designs are in an unusual, extra large format rarely seen with woodblock prints.
This Print - Each print comes in the original folder as issued by Unsodo with the title of the flower on the front (see example below, titles vary). The woodblock is attached to the folder at the top corners, and could be removed if desired. These bold, bright and beautiful images are finely printed with beautiful rich color on handmade paper with a deckle or natural edge on three sides. This print is from a later edition published by Unsodo from the original blocks.
Tanigami Konan peony prints are large, exceptional, eye-catching designs that would make a beautiful traditional Japanese centerpiece in any room. We rarely see these lovely designs and they sell quickly. Don't miss this opportunity to acquire a terrific design from this fantastic floral series.
