This water color is of the Nikko Shrine in Nikko Japan, A World Heritage site. Painted in the first quarter of the 20th century. signed lower right "Misei Kosugi-Nikko" It is in very good bright condition with a minor corner loss to the lower left corner (About 1/2''). It is now in a modern frame. Image size 19 1/2'' x 13 1/2''

Misei Kosugi (Kosugi Kunitaro) (1881-1964) Born In Nikko Japan in 1881, was originally trained as a painter. In 1898 He went to Tokyo and in 1902 he was one of the founders of "Pacific Western Style Painting Society". He worked as a newspaper illustrator during the Russo-Japanese War (1904). He traveled to France with his friend Yamamoto Kanae in 1923. Later in life he returned to painting in a Japanese style. He eventually changed his name to Kosugi Hoan and moved to Nikko where a museum bears his name and houses his works.
