This is another version of the painting in my collection (see the other entry, number 40130, in this database). No doubt this scene was one of Eika's favourites.
From eBay: For your consideration: another prime example of E. Kato's magical evening scenes. This work from my Kato collection is most likely by Eika Kato. Presented is an extremely large and detailed pre war painting of evening vendors, musicians and strollers. Eika Kato is well known for his evening views and his use of light has been well recognized. The depth of field displayed here shows a rare talent. The image measures 12 3/4" X 20" and overall is 21" X 27". Kato was born in Fukui, Japan in 1869 and died in 1942. He learned water color technique from Tory Azukisawa. The watercolor is signed E. Kato lower right. The solid wood framing is of the highest quality with acid free matting and backing. |
