Japanese novelist and essayist whose stories of heroic characters balanced the more romantic tendency of his rival, Ozaki Kōyō, in creating a new literature for early modern Japan.

Subject:
The work is a Kuchi-e print by Eiho. He was one of the leading artists of the Kuchi-e movement . He was an important woodblock printmaker of the Meiji Period. His specialty was kuchi-e prints and illustrations for books. We can feel the influence of the tradition in the print. Kuchi-e are woodblock-printed frontispiece illustrations produced for publication in Japanese novels and literary magazines at the turn-of-the-century (1895-1912). This print represents a beauty, dandy and old man. The Kuchi-e print is in his original condition ( inserted in the book).
