Kuchi-e for a novel by Kōda Rohan, pseudonym of Kōda Shigeyuki (born Aug. 20, 1867, Edo, Japan; died July 30, 1947, Ichikawa, Chiba Prefecture). Japanese novelist and essayist whose stories of heroic characters balanced the more romantic tendency of his rival, Ozaki Kōyō, in creating a new literature for early modern Japan. |

Artist: Eiho Format: Book: 22,5 x 15 cm Kuchi-e( approx: 28cmx22cm), Conditions: Fine colors and impression . Light toning and slight soiling, as is common in these Kuchi-e pieces. The print is folded vertically (now flattened) as are all kuchi-e prints (because of their use), so this is not a negative. The print is exactly as the pictures.So please, look attentively the picture. Thank you. Subject: The work is a Kuchi-e print by Eiho. He was one of the leading artists of the Kuchi-e movement . He was an important woodblock printmaker of the Meiji Period. His specialty was kuchi-e prints and illustrations for books. We can feel the influence of the tradition in the print. Kuchi-e are woodblock-printed frontispiece illustrations produced for publication in Japanese novels and literary magazines at the turn-of-the-century (1895-1912). This print represents a beauty,dandy and old man. The Kuchi-e print is in his original condition ( inserted in the book). |
