This example is the very rare original 1893 Mitsui edition. Most examples of this print are folded, having originally been bound into a book format. This example has no fold. |

Toshikata was commissioned to create a series of 12 domestic scenes when Mitsui Clothing Store (Mitsui Gofuku) changed its name from Echigoya in 1893 (Today, Mitsui is one of Japan's largest corporations). This collection was released once more in 1904 when the store became known as Mitsukoshi. The edition by "Mitsukoshi" was featured in the reference book of the Muller Collection. Most examples of this print are folded, having originally been bound into a book format. |
