HIROSHI - Japanese Watercolor Painting Doro, Kishu / 1940s
Dating to the late 1940s, this painting is an accurate depiction of this very recognizable location. It is the subject of a HASUI woodblock print. It is a peaceful setting with the typical fisherman included in the image. The painting is well done in a 'Western' painting style that started in the late 1880s when Japan opened its' doors to the West and its' teachers. This style of painting continues today. The popularity of this style grew into the 'shin hanga' woodblock print movement at the beginning of the 20th century. The colors are STRONG. This painting uses 'bokashi' shading in the sky and water area. Realistic reflections in the water. There is a good perspective throughout the painting. The condition is FINE.
NOTED: The size is: 10 3/16 x 13 13/16 inches or 25.9 x 35.1 cm painted on heavy watercolor board. |

| Artist Bio: |
The artist Hiroshi painted the more popular scenes of Japan for the tourist market (i.e., Mt Fuji, cherry trees in spring, winter snow, autumn, temple torii gates and lanterns, ocean boats, etc.). He always singed his paintings 'Hiroshi', underlined. This is not the artist Hiroshi Yoshida, who usually painted more rustic scenes and signed his paintings 'H Yoshida'.
