Title Still Life in the Back Light early work Artist Toru Mabuchi 1920-1994
Description "Seibutsu Gyakko" (Back Lit Still Life). Although Toru Mabuchi was a fine technician and could do elaborate printing using thirty to fifty printing stages, he did not want to use only the traditional method. Since he had been interested in the Byzantine mosaics and the pointillist paintings of Seurat, he developed a printing technique by using small pieces of wood pasted on print blocks like mosaic stones.
This print was Mabuchi's rather early works before his signature mosaic method.
