M KINSEN - Japanese Watercolor Painting
Carp Streamers / 1920s
The painted image is a typical Japanese village in the 1920s. Carp streamers are common toys for children and larger streamers are used to decorate the street for festivals. The painting is well done in a 'Western' painting style that started in the late 1880s when Japan opened its' doors to the West and its' teachers. The popularity of this style grew into the 'shin hanga' woodblock print movement at the beginning of the 20th century. The colors are STRONG. This painting uses 'bokashi' shading and has a good perspective throughout the painting. The condition is FINE.
NOTED: The painting is laid. The paper size is: 13 1/4 x 19 5/8 inches or 33.7 x 49.8 cm painted on heavy watercolor paper. |
