This print, Ioridani Pass in Etchu, is based on a sketch made by Hasui during his 102-day tour of Japan around 1923. Although it is a complicated and meticulously rendered bird's-eye view of the valley at Etchu, it is also a nocturn. Not to be overlooked are the fine aspects of the print such as the sunset in the western sky, the mountains and the mists that screen the distant mountains. Watanabe reports that it took four years from the cutting of the blocks to the completion of the trial print.
