The following information was taken from the original web listing of this artwork. Note that there may be some inaccuracies:

A wonderful pair of nicely framed vintage black and white woodblock prints from Japan depicting two diverse Japanese scenes:

1. Itsukushima Shrine (Japanese: 厳島神社 Itsukushima-jinja), a Shinto shrine on the island of Itsukushima (popularly known as Miyajima), best known for its "floating" torii gate.

2. (this print) Winter snowscape, probably in Northern Japan, perhaps Hokaido.

The prints are very well done and in good vintage condition as shown in the photos. Perhaps the signatures might be recognized by experts in Japanese art. As per the tag on the back, they were framed by Bayne Art Gallery of Fullerton, California, back before we had area codes! They measure 10 x 13 inches framed.

Artist Bio:
Prints by this "artist" are obviously plagiarised versions of scenes of well-known artists as they carry the Edo/Meiji era artist family "Utagawa" (think Hiroshige, Kunisada, etc.) yet are shin-hanga style and published around the 1950s.
As for the original artist, a quick glance and you would be forgiven for thinking these are by Tsuchiya Koitsu. They are certainly in his style but do have a "smell" of simplified plagiarism. Further analysis of the signature kanji 眞光 reveals a further connection to Koitsu: the first character 眞 was used extensively for the seal on Koitsu prints; the 2nd character 光 is Koitsu's first character. Furthermore, the two prints I have seen are similar to Koitsu scenes Manazuru Harbour and Miyajima. In summary: plagiarised Tsuchiya Koitsu prints!
