Maiko from a series of four maikos by Terashima Shimei. Original Japanese woodblock print circa 1961. Edition of 200 in left margin. Print measures 17.6 x 15.1 inches. Exceedingly nice details including gold and silver inks and deep embossing on inner kimono (see close-up photo c). Very nice bijin-ga printed by Adachi in 1961.

Maiko from a series of four maikos by Terashima Shimei. Original Japanese woodblock print circa 1961. Print is numbered 62/200 in left margin. Very good condition. One spot in background and slight matte stain in margins. Strong texture and ink bleed through on fine Japanese washi. Print measures 17.6 x 15.1 inches. Exceeding nice details including gold and silver inks and deep embossing on inner kimono (see close-up photo c). Very nice bijin-ga printed by Adachi in 1961. Main image is scanned in two parts.

Artist Bio: 

日本画家。名は徳重。兵庫県生。幼少より絵画・文学を好み、上京して鏑木清方に師事。美人画家として伊東深水と並び称され、そのはんなりとした姿体の中に静寂と密度をもって女性の情念の深さを表わし、文展・帝展に活躍した。また奥村土牛・山口華楊らと九皐会に参加。戦後は、日展審査員・参与を務める。芸術院賞受賞。昭和50年(1975)歿、82才
