Title Orchid Provenance: Uchida Family Archives: Artist Zuigetsu Ikeda 1877-1944 Signature "Zuigetsu". Publisher Uchida. Medium/Technique Woodblock print. Description Hanging orchid rendered in vivid colors and exquisite bokashi. A trial proof of the first edition. Zuigetsu was a fine Nihon-ga artist in Kyoto. He mainly did kacho-ga (bird and flower pictures). Note Uchida Han is an important Japanese publishing company with branches in both Tokyo and Kyoto. Founded in 1919, the company is still in existence today as an active publisher of shin-hanga in addition to publishing re-strikes of Edo period ukiyo-e prints.
