A fine woodblock print impression in very good condition with pigments showing great vibrant colors. The piece has full margins with no rips, tears, holes, folds, foxing. There are some light creases, mostly in margins. This piece was framed and matted. There is some adhesive applied at the top margin that adheres the work to a board. This sale is for the print only and does not include the frame. It will ship flat on the board, we will not attempt to remove the adhesive. Self-Carved Self-Printed tag en verso. Number 47 of 300. Red Kawano seal and pencil signature at lower right within image, and Kawano signature in bottom margin at right. Entitled Aloha. Double-oban. Image area about 14-3/4" x 22". |

| Artist Bio: |
Kaoru Kawano was a very popular artist, known for his distinctively styled depictions of figures, especially children. He uses the woodgrain patterns to render the textures and the mood to his works. Double-oban-sized prints are almost always limited-edition lifetime strikes that are pencil-signed, editioned, and titled by Kawano himself. There are rare later editions that have stencilled titles, which I believe are posthumous strikes. Large-oban-sized scenes with a pencil-signed signature (usually within the printed area) will be lifetime editions signed by the artist, while unsigned prints with a black round seal on the verso will be posthumous strikes.
