Subject: From the series Fuzoku Sanjuniso - The Thirty-two Aspects of Customs and Manners #10 Looking Feminine: The Appearance of a Castle-toppler of the Tempo Era (1830-1844). This lady is descibed as an Oiran or 'Castle-toppler, a poetic name for a high ranking courtesan capable, by beauty alone, to bring Emporers and Empires to their knees.

Publisher: Tsunashima: Engraved by Wada Koku

Date: 1st April 1888

Condition: Full size, untrimmed. Retains Japanese album backing paper. Very slight foxing. Minor marks and flaws. Generally good state.

Colour: Very fine

Impression: Very good with gauffrage and metallic pigments

Estimated Value: £600 - £800
