Large head Portrait: The Courtesan Shizuka

Format: Oban tate-e: 15" x 9.75" approx

Subject: Against a grey background a majestic large-head portrait of the courtesan Shizuka from the greenhouse Tama-ya.

Very rare and wonderful. See Brandt, Eishi and his School; page 231, C35

Publisher: Maruya Bunemon

Date: late 1790's

Condition: A little trimmed, but larger than the example shown by Brandt. Paper thinning. Minor creases, marks and flaws. Generally good state.

Colour: Very good

Impression: Fine with gauffrage
