1959 Asian Art Woodblock Print Modern TAMAMI SHIMA

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here you have a nice original mid-century signed woodblock print by Japanese artist Tamami Shima ( 1937 - 1999). Tamami Shima was a graduate of the Women's College of Fine Arts in Tokyo. Her work was promoted in the West when she was selected as one of ten winners in a print competition sponsored by James Michener. Shima's designs are notable for their use of texture and form especially for her striking use of various wood grain patterns within a single image. Print measures about 24" X 17". Wood frame measures about 30" X 23". Backing board is loose in frame. Brown paper backing is taped around edges. Tape is torn and loose. Print has minor staining along bottom margin. Pencil signed and dated. Old framing label on back marked: " 331 Gallery Custom Framing 331 Chartress St. New Orleans, La. ". Print has age fading along edges due to light exposure. Overall, Good condition. Patina and wear consistent with age. Selling " as found ".
