The Puppet Master

Artist: Katsukawa Shunei
Format: Hosoban tate-e: 12" x 5.5" approx

Subject: The half-naked actor Kitaoka Nizaemon VII in the role of a puppet master operating his bijin doll.

A particularly rare and well preserved Shunei design of which we can find no other record.

Date: c.1790

Condition: Full size. Two tiny wormholes restored. Minor marks and flaws. Generally extremely good state for an 18th century print.

Colour: Remarkably well preserved with fading of the blue tonsure

Impression: Very fine
