Rare LIMITED-NUMBER original Japanese woodblock print “Water Lily” signed by the Taisho/Showa Shin Hanga woodblock master Tokuoka Shinsen (1896-1972) published by the famous KYOTO HANGA PRINTMAKER in 1950s. Tokuoka Shinsen is one of the most famous Shin Hanga woodblock artists in Tasho/early Showa. The print size is 14 x 18 1/4 inches, which is larger than traditional Shin Hanga woodblock prints. The colors, which are vivid and vibrant, are in layers. All four borders are intact. The artist’s signature and chop mark are at the lower right corner of the print. The original KYOTO HANGA PRINTMAKER chop mark, caver and printer’s seals, LIMITED-NUMBER 15/100, and another KYOTO HANGA PRINTMAKER’S fan-shape chop mark are in the lower right border. This woodblock print is not attached to any backing paper or cardboard and strong ink bleeding can be seen through the back of the original Japanese mulberry Washi paper. Except for some foxing in the borders, which does not affect the images, this woodblock print is in excellent condition.
