Up for auction is an original watercolor on paper by Tokusaburo Kobayashi 1884-1949. He is known for his prolific, well executed landscapes mainly done in watercolor. I am not an art expert but having an interest in Japanese art I recognized the painter's name when I found the painting at a local estate sale several years ago. I have seen his paintings sold by several auction houses in the United States during the past few years. This painting measures 10 1/2" by 17" including its frame and features a river landscape with a boat and huts along the river's edge. The size of the watercolor view itself is 6 3/8" by by 12 5/8". The condition is good with some fading. The painting is signed T. Kobayashi on the lower left and has not been examined out of frame.
