I came across your website and I am writing to offer > you two watercolors by E. Kato. The dimension is > approximately 30 x 50 cm (H x W). We found these in > an > old estate in Minnesota. Both were painted on paper > and laid down on board. The edges of the paper is > not > smooth (are covered by the mat). The water color > with > the hut is very good, if not excellent for the age. > The watercolor with the fisherman suffers some > foxing > in the sky area. Otherwise it is also very good. >

The matted size is 32 x 48.5cm. The image size itself is slightly larger. I am attaching two unframed images. I also included an image of the back of the board. Please note that the watercolors are laid down on board. |

1869, April - Born Saichiro Kato, he took Eika Kato as a pseudonym. 1886 - Learnt watercolor painting from Toru Azukisawa. 1888 - Moved to Yokohama. 1889 - Learnt Japanese style painting techniques from Beisen Kubota. 1892, September - Married Kiku Tanaka. 1909, March - Announced an exhibition of 50 watercolours. 1910~ - Extend over several decades, painted watercolours in Hong Kong. 1942, September - Died at the age of 74. Buried in Kuboyama cemetery.
