Fine quality Meiji era (1868-1912) watercolor painting on paper depicting a Bijin holding a fan. Signed: "Tani" who is a listed artist. Painting measures 9.5" x 13". This is an unusually fine quality painting of its type. Most watercolors of this era by Western influenced Japanese artists are usually landscapes and somewhat more crude in technique. Condition: Painting has a small puncture on the red collar of her kimono. It's minor, pretty unobtrusive and restorable. Also a bend to the upper left corner. See images.
