Rare1920's Japanese Watercolor Night Scene by E. Kato

A beautiful watercolor of a night Street scene in a Japanese town, painted in the 1920's.
This watercolour was done in a Western watercolour technique, on European watercolour
paper and with European watercolour paint. Most watercolours are signed in a Western
way in Roman letters. They are made from 1890 till the end of the 1920s by artists with a
Western style education, at Art schools in Japan by Western teachers. This painting is
signed E.Kato MEASUREMENTS: Paper size 19 1/4" inches by 12 3/4" inches
…CONDITION: Excellent.

Artist Bio: 
1869, April - Born Saichiro Kato, he took Eika Kato as a pseudonym.
1886 - Learnt watercolor painting from Toru Azukisawa.
1888 - Moved to Yokohama.
1889 - Learnt Japanese style painting techniques from Beisen Kubota.
1892, September - Married Kiku Tanaka.
1909, March - Announced an exhibition of 50 watercolours.
1910~ - Extend over several decades, painted watercolours in Hong Kong.
1942, September - Died at the age of 74. Buried in Kuboyama cemetery.
