Ah! An Evening Shower
Limited Edition of 82 impressions

These woodblock masterworks of the contemporary period - Tonight, we are excited to offer a fantastic collection of limited edition wood block prints by Japan's leading early 20th century artists.

In the early 20th century, in conjunction with the interest in the West, contemporary Japanese artists began to design works of art that were distinctly Japanese but reflected a consideration of a Western esthetic. As the leading artists of their time, their works influenced painters and wood block print artists over the following decades. The leaders in this new modern movement including; Fukuda Heihachiro, Tikuoka Shinsen, Tomioka Tessai, Uemura Shoen, Yokoyama Taikan and others dominated the art scene in Japan during the first half of the 20th century.

In the early 1960s, the Tanseisha publishing house produced a limited edition set of 20th century Japanese works of art, titled "A Selection of Famous Modern Japanese Prints". Included in this set were the beautiful prints offered in our auctions this evening. Each print design was released in a limited edition. Note that each auction includes the number of impressions made of each print. All were very low editions. Additionally, these large format prints are beautiful, individual works of art that make a excellent centerpiece in any room. The large format and beautiful color quality are exceptional. Due to low production numbers of the sets prints are very rare, highly sought after. Browse tonight's auctions and select from these beautiful contemporary works.

Comments- A lovely Seiho print design and masterwork from the 20th century. This excellent 20th century beauty print depicts a young woman in a fine kimono tied with an elaborate, beautiful obi. She holds a fan near her face to protect from the light rain (as mentioned in the title). Note the wonderful detail on the figure and the obi- especially finely done. The demure tilt of the woman's head, and shielding of her face from the viewer, suggests a charming shyness. Absolutely wonderful!
