Kuchi-e: The Elephant Dream

Artist: Tomioka Eisen
Format: Aiban yoko-e: 9" x 13" approx

Subject: Another strange design from Eisen with a girl daydreaming of three Elephants marching.

Tomioka Eisen was born in Nagano prefecture under the name of Hidetaro. He went to Tokyo to study drafting and was employed by the army as a civilian. Later he resigned from the army and became a full time illustrator. Most of his works were illustrations for newspapers, journals and kuchi-e.

Date: c.1900

Condition: Fine. Never folded.

Colour: Fine

Impression: Fine with lacquer on the girl's hair and burnishing.
