Description "Stone Buddha of Usuki" Many Buddha images were carved into the stone walls at Usuki in Ohita prefecture. The legend says that these images were carved by the Korean artists more than 1000 years ago. The most famous is this head of Buddha which fell from the statue of 3-meter-high. Someone apparently picked it up and placed it on a stone base from which it can be seen now. The beautiful long crescent eyes, elegant eyebrows and mouth, plump cheeks … all represent the mysterious and benevolent quality of this sacred Buddha.
