Title Dancing Figure - Kamuro hand signed, limited edition Artist Kaoru Kawano 1916-1965 Signature "Kaoru Kawano" in pencil on the bottom margin. "Kaoru Kawano" in pencil under the red seal (difficult to see). Seal Artist's seal. Dated Ca. 1945 - 50s.

Description "Kamuro" ("Dancing Figure"). "Kamuro" is an attendant for a courtesan. Here, she is showing her skill of the traditional dances.
Note "Self carved and self printed; Kaoru Kawano" is printed on a strip of paper and pasted on the back with an artist's seal.

Kaoru Kawano was a very popular artist for his distinctively styled depictions of figures, especially children. He uses the wood grain patterns to lender the textures and the mood to the works.
