Lobster by Rakuzan Tsuchiya

Gorgeous woodblock of a lobster and clam shells. This print is amazing to see in person. Rakuzan used his own superlative techniques to give a complete illusion of three-dimensionality to the lobster. A variety of highlights, shadings, and color variations foster this illusion. The clamshells are also highlighted and shaded in this fashion. The beautiful arraignment of clamshells enhances the perfection of the design.
Rakuzan is noted for the attention he paid to detail in his woodblocks. His designs used subtly colored inks, layered by the use of many woodblocks, to make just one print He is most noted for a series of birds and flowers. However, as you can see from this woodblock, his talents embraced depiction of sea life equally well. Comes with a certificate of authenticity
