Shunga: The Mannekin Voyeur #1

Artist: Harunobu
Format: Chuban yoko-e: 8.25" x 10.75"

Subject: From Harunobu's famous series of Spring pictures (shunga), featuring a miniature voyeur. The example shows a young couple in the throws of love-making behind a mosquito net. The mannekin is pointing out the activity to an elderly couple, who are about to take tea. The old man is trying to encourage his wife into similar activity.

Publisher: Privately produced

Date: c. 1760's

Condition: Full size. Clean vertical fold-mark. Minor soils, marks and flaws. Generally fine state of preservation.

Colour: Fine. The extremely fugitive blue pigment still fresh.

Impression: Fine with gauffrage
