Outsize Kuchi-e: Ghost of a Bijin and Skull

Artist: Tomioka Eisen
Format: Oban tate-e: 14.25" x 9.25" approx

Subject: The ghostly apparition of a beautiful courtesan emanating from a skull.

One of the most powerful of all Kuchi-e designs, and very rare.

Date: c.1900

Condition: Very slightly trimmed at right. Horizontal and vertical fold marks and other creases. Two thinned spots in bottom margin. Minor stains, soils, marks and flaws. Generally quite good state.

Colour: Fine

Impression: Very fine, with lacquer in the hair and use of silver pigment.
