A Mirror of the Joruri: The Two Doomed Lovers

Artist: Eisui
Format: Aiban tate-e: 14" x 9" approx

Subject: From the series Bijin Awase Joruri Kagami, against a gray background, the bust portraits of the lovers Konami and Rikiya at their last meeting before Rikiya's death in battle. Like all of Eisui's designs, of great delicacy and elegance. Not known to Brandt when he compiled 'Eishi and His School', he lists 6 other designs from the set. Extremely rare.

Publisher: Maruya Bunaemon

Date: late 1790's

Condition: Full size. Light wear and creases. Two minute wormholes. An unobtrusive stain bottom right corner. Minor marks and flaws. Good state of preservation.

Colour: Good

Impression: Good
