The Actress Sakai Yoneko by Yamanaka Kodo (Tatsushige). Genuine woodblock print dated Showa 4. Very good condition. 18.9 x 13.0 inches. Later impression with Narazaki supervisor's seal, Koike carver's seal and Watanabe printer's seal in left margin. Strong texture and ink bleedthrough. Very nice baren rubbings. Compare with same image in the Book "The Female Image 20th Century Prints of Japanese Beauties". Comes with original presentation folder.

Artist Bio: 

山中古洞。 明治2年(1869年)7月10日-昭和20年( 1945年))は、東京出身。旧姓は佐藤。本名は升(のぼる)。明治時代から昭和時代にかけてのの浮世絵師、日本画家。月岡芳年(よしとし),熊谷直彦らにまなび, 人物画を得意とした。
