Important Pillar Print: The Young Lovers
Artist: Kiyonaga Format: Hashira-e: 28" x 5" approx
Subject: A mitate of Kanzan and Shite. Two young lovers, the boy reading a love-letter to the girl who simpers behind her sleeve. A besum between them. The poem reads 'Quarrels between new lovers may, perhaps, be swept away with a broom.' A monumental and elegant Kiyonaga design, from his finest period, in superb condition. Date: c.1780's
Condition: Full size with margins. Mounted on paper with a silk brocade surround. Roller marks. A small wormhole on right edge at top. Very minor marks. Generally almost perfect state of preservation.
Colour: Quite astonishingly fresh.
Impression: Fine with gauffrage.
