Note that there may be some inaccuracies: Wednesday, 29 December 2010 Comments - Beautiful portrait of a Chinese woman from the novel "Rafu-san." She leans against the trunk of a blossoming plum tree, looking over her shoulder with a thoughtful expression. The long sleeves of her red top completely cover her hands, and a green cloth is draped over one arm, trailing down the front of her flowing skirt. A lovely facial expression, beautifully drawn. A fine kuchi-e subject. Artist - Kajita Hanko (1870 - 1917) Image Size - 11 1/2" x 8 5/8" Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Two horizontal folds (now flattened) as with all kuchi-e prints (because of their use), so this is not a negative. Light soiling, slight offsetting, a few faint spots. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
	Artist Bio:	作家 梶田半古 （かじたはんこ） 明治３年（一八七○）～大正６年（一九一七）東京に生れ、同地で没。本名は錠次郎。 はじめ四条派の鍋田玉英に師事し、のち鈴木華邨について学び、さらに岡倉天心の日本美術院で研究を重ねた。日本青年絵画協会の創立に参加。写実的な風俗画を得意とし、また新聞小説などに挿絵などを描き、新鮮で優艶な作風で知られた。代表作には『春宵怨図』（東京国立博物館）など。 ■■■ 梶田半古は明治30年頃から40年にかけて文芸雑誌の口絵を数多く手がけています。特に『文芸倶楽部』、『新小説』、『ムラサキ』などの口絵が知られています。「王夫人」は中国故事人物になぞらえて、女学生が琴を持つ様を表しています。半古は自分でデザインした服を娘達に着せたり、「風俗の改良」という記事を読売新聞に発表して新しい衣服を提案するなど、デザイナーとしての感覚にも優れていました。半古は台東区下谷に生まれ、工芸図案の下絵などを描くかたわら、新聞挿絵を描き、読売新聞社社員時代には人気挿絵作家となっています。その一方、展覧会に出品を続け、明治31年には日本美術院創立に参加、弟子には小林古径、前田青邨らがいました。 山種美術館所蔵作家
