Dating of this chuban series (note from Ross Walker): a note included with a set I purchased includes the date of 1974. This chuban series actually included 10 prints: the 8 Hasui scenes as well as two bijin-ga scenes by Yamakawa Shuho (chuban-sized versions of two of his oban-sized pre-war prints). This Print, Unzen Peak, 1926- Wonderful design of the mountain rising through the clouds at twilight, the sky glowing pink in the setting sun, sailboats on the calm water. A restful, lovely scene.
Signed- Kawase Hasui with yellow or red artist’s seal as shown Titled- In Japanese in margin as shown. Image size- 10 3/4” x 7 3/4” Condition- In excellent condition overall as shown with no holes, tears, damage, repairs or other issues to report. Beautiful rich color, not faded. Excellent detail. A lovely print for the discerning collector. No condition issues.

川瀬 巴水。1883年(明治16年)5月18日 - 1957年(昭和32年)11月7 日)。大正・昭和期の浮世絵師、版画家。1918年 (大正7年)、風景画家として世に出る。以後、数多くの木版画を発表。 衰退した日本の浮世絵版画を復興すべく吉田博らとともに新しい浮世絵版画の叙情的世界に、自然に肉薄する近代人の視点を導入することにより、独自の世界を展開した。享年74歳。 |
