Unusual and intriguing chop-signed woodblock print of an abstract still life with flowers or Ichibana arrangement by Japanese artist Kaoru Kawano (1916-1965, biography below). The piece is matted and framed. (Photos show piece both in and out of matte.)
Kawano’s chop signature, approx. ¾” square in red ink, appears in the margin on the lower right side of the paper under the matte.
Image is in very good condition and measures approx. 4-1/4” wide by approx. 6” high. Paper is in very good condition and measures approx. 6-3/4” wide by 8-3/4” high. Matte measures 8” wide by 10” high. Frame is in very good condition and measures 8-7/8” wide by 10-7/8” high.
The piece was originally taped to the matte using strips of regular tape, so there is discoloration on the back of the paper where the original tape held the piece to the matte. It is now held in with one strip of acid-free artist’s tape. |
