Montmartre (after Vincent van Gogh, 1886) by Gihachiro Okuyama. Original woodblock print circa 1959. Fine color, condition and impression. Never been framed. 13.8 x 11.0 inches. Pencil dated July Showa 34 and signed Okuyama Gihachiro Saku in left margin. Red Gijin seal also in left margin. Pencil titled, signed and dated in bottom margin. Nice woodgrain in sky. Strong ink bleedthrough. |

◆奥山儀八郎 (おくやま-ぎはちろう）1907年～1981年 版画家
明治40年 2月山形県寒河江市に生まれる。
昭和03年 第8回日本創作版画協会展に初入選。
昭和04年 「儀八・丸の内風景個人展」（日本毛織ショールーム内・NIKKE画廊）。
昭和06年 河野鷹思、山名文夫らと東京広告美術協会を結成する。
昭和08年 日本珈琲飲用史の研究に着手。
昭和09年 広告版画個展（銀座・伊東屋）。
昭和11年 浮世絵研究で名高い石井研堂に私淑。
昭和16年 彫師・摺師との協同作業による伝統的木版画制作を開始。
昭和20年～昭和27年、日本版画研究所で浮世絵の復刻事業を行なう。
昭和29年 松戸市下矢切に自宅を構え工房を開設。
昭和40年 伊藤左千夫の小説『野菊の墓』の文学碑建設(松戸市)のため尽力。
昭和56年 10月、没（享年74）。 |
