Charming chop-signed woodblock print of a young girl by Japanese artist Kaoru Kawano (1916-1965, biography below). The piece is sold matted and unframed. (Photos show piece both in and out of matte.)
Kawano’s chop signature, approx. ¾” square in red ink, appears in the margin on the lower right side of the paper.
Image is in very good condition and measures approx. 4-1/4” wide by approx. 5-7/8” high. Paper is in very good condition – with one old glue speck in middle of the right margin and 1-1/4” strip of clear tape in middle of the bottom margin hidden by the matte – and measures approx. 6-3/4” wide by 8-3/4” high. Matte measures 8” wide by 10” high. |

Kaoru Kawano was a very popular artist for his distinctively styled depictions of figures, especially children. He uses the wood grain patterns to lender the textures and the mood to the works.
