A group of Kyoto artists headed by Matsumoto Eikyu had a large project to revitalize the traditional "Yamato-e" (Japanese style painting) to more popular forms. Their prints were published by Shin Yamato-e Mokuhanga Kanko-kai in 1930s.

Description The divers and the rough sea at the Shionomisaki. This is one of Koga's prints for Matsuoka Eikyu's project to revitalize the traditional Yamato-e to more popular forms. Their prints were published by Shin Yamato-e Mokuhanga Kanko-kai.

Artist Bio: 

狩野 光雅(かのう こうが) 明治30年<1897>-昭和28年<1953> 和歌山県出身 日本画家。本名は政次郎。 東京美術学校日本画科卒業後、松岡映丘に師事し、新興大和絵会結成に参加。 大和絵の新たな表現を追求し、意欲的な創作活動を行いました。 同会解散後、帝展に出品し、1933年「飛瀑」で特選を受賞。 1935年国画院に参加。
