DESCRIPTION :This lot is for a miniature Japanese woodblock print that is tipped into a booklet dated 1951 titled CATALOGUE OF WOODCUT COLOR PRINTS BY CONTEMPORARY JAPANESE ARTISTS compiled and published by the S. Watanabe Color Prints Co. from Tokyo, Japan. We dont know which artist did this print. If anyone can study this print from our photo and tell us who did it, please let us know. This print could be taken out of this book and framed if desired.
This 58 page booklet printed in English is a catalog of Japanese wood block prints for sale with a few illustrations and extensive lists of print titles for sale by Shinsui, Hasui, Takashi, Shiro, Shoson, Shunsen, Hiroaki, Kazuma, Koitsu, Eisho, Konen, Kiyoshi, Hakuho, Koitsu, Kokan, Gyokusei, Tadamasa, and Gakusui. There are also short chapters on the art of Japanese printmaking. The soft bound cover appears to be printed just like an actual woodblock print and the inside cover has flecks of silver leaf in the paper.

Be sure and click on our other auctions to see the other lots of Japanese woodblock prints and vintage reference books on the subject that we currently are selling on eBay from this same collection.

MARKS : The print has some Japanese chop marks in red near the bottom left corner and in black near the top right corner. If anyone can translate these, please let us know.

CONDITION : The small print is lightly glued along the left edge into the second page of the booklet and is otherwise in mint condition free from fading, stains, or damages. We have not tried to remove this print from the booklet.

The booklet itself is in excellent condition with only faint soiling or spots to the cover and one short line of pencil writing on the last page.

MEASUREMENTS :The print measures about 3 ½ inches by 5 ½ inches. The booklet measures 5 inches by 7 1/8 inches.
