This is an genuine original Japanese woodblock print by great shin-hanga artist Ohashi Gekko (b.1895) portrait of the actor in “onnagata” role from the series "Kabuki Explanation and Stories, Series 2 ". The print is dated Showa 30 (1956). This print published by Kiyoto Hanga-In, Shinagawa Publishers in 1956, dated over Shinagawa seal on the left margin. Printed on special thick paper with extensive usage of “gouffrage”(embossing) and metallic (silver) pigment. Signed and sealed by artist in the image and titled in kanji inside the image. Large oban size 18 1/2" x 14 1/4".

This is an genuine original Japanese woodblock print by great shin-hanga artist Ohashi Gekko (b.1895) portrait of the actor in “onnagata” role from the series "Kabuki Explanation and Stories, Series 2 ". The print is dated Showa 30 (1956). This print published by Kiyoto Hanga-In, Shinagawa Publishers in 1956, dated over Shinagawa seal on the left margin. Deluxe edition. Printed on special thick paper with extensive usage of “gouffrage”(embossing) and metallic (silver) pigment. The print is not trimmed or set down, has full margins. Great impression, good colors and registration. Signed and sealed by artist in the image and titled in kanji inside the image. Large oban size 18 1/2" x 14 1/4". The margins are a little dirty, very slight toning from mat, strong matburn toning only on a back - it’s not affected to the front because of very thick (deluxe printing) paper.
Musume Dojoji History: This dance-drama is a Kabuki adaptation of the famous Nô play "Dôjôji". It has been performed for the first time in the 3rd lunar month of 1753 in Edo at the Nakamuraza. The main role of the dance was played by the great star Nakamura Tomijûrô I. The performance's success was beyond expectation and it was extended for several months. |
