KAORU KAWANO "DANCING FIGURE (ESHIMA)" original woodblock woodcut print signed by the artist with seal. Image size 14 1/2inches x 23 3/4 inches. Provenance: KYOTO, Japan "Red Latern" Shop purchased 1989. Excellent condition. Very elegeant figure. Beautiful image.The condition is excellent, there are no tears or creases, stains, foxing, matte burn, etc.
I can see the following: On the image lower left, an orange seal and below it a signature "Kaoru Kawano" in script.
In lower margin from left to right: Two Japanese characters, in block letters DANCING FIGURE (ESHIMA) KAURU KAWANO.The back of the print has in one lower corner a 15 mm diameter circle with two vertical lines followed by what looks like a Y (I I Y)) with a horizontal line across the apex of the Y. |

Kaoru Kawano was a very popular artist for his distinctively styled depictions of figures, especially children. He uses the wood grain patterns to lender the textures and the mood to the works.
