This image of Ushibori, Ibaraki prefecture is a characteristic print by the Tokyo publishers Sakai-Kawaguchi: wide margins a slightly heavier paper and highly textured printing. A watercolor based on this design is known. Hasui made only sixteen prints for the publisher Kawaguchi and Sakai. This handful of works are considered among his finest works. First editions rarely come to market. |
