The Love Letter

Artist: Eizan
Format: Oban tate-e: 15" x 10"

Subject: 'Chrysanthemums' from the series 'Furyu Nagauta Hakkei' (Eight Views of True Beauties). A bijin reads a love letter while her companion, who leans on a shamisen box, also starts to read the same letter. From Eizan's most elegant early period. A superb bijin composition.

Publisher: Wakasaya Yoichi

Date: c.1812

Condition: Fine colors. Full size, untrimmed. Slightly soiled. Minor expert restorations. Generally remarkably good state of preservation.

Impression: Fine impression with extensive gauffrage.
